http://massmediang.com/explanation-nothing-scandalous-or-extraordinary-in-inclusion-of-dead-persons-in-appointees-list-presidency/

Anwuka Chetachi assumpta 2016054027DE

The Presidency says there is nothing “scandalous or extraordinary’’ in the inclusion of the names of some dead persons in the list of appointments into boards of some agencies released on Friday.

Garba Shehu, the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, stated this in an interview with newsmen in Abuja on Saturday.

He said the list which was released by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) was prepared over two years ago and nobody could stop some of those included on the list from dying between then and now.

According to him, the process of compiling the list started in 2015, while a reviewed list was presented to President Muhammadu Buhariin 2017 shortly before his health challenges.

He added that, having recovered fully, Buhari only instructed the new SGF, Boss Mustapha, to release the list.

Shehu however assured Nigerians that the dead appointees will be replaced.

He said:

This list is a historical list. It dates back to 2015. The President asked all state chapters of the APC to forward 50 names for appointments to the SGF through the national headquarters of the party. The then SGF, Babachir Lawal, presented the report in October 2016, one year after he was commissioned. The report was disputed by state governors who said they were not carried along or the list was not representative enough. So, the President constituted a new panel chaired by the Vice President. The panel has some governors and some leaders of the party as members. They were asked to go and review the list. The panel did its work and turned in its report early in 2017. The President had his health challenges during that period.’

Shehu further explained that the president only decided to revisit the matter recently and therefore directed the new SGF to release the list.

He assured that the appearance of dead persons’ names was a mistake which will be corrected.

The president approved the constitution of the Governing Boards of Agencies and Parastatals, under some Ministries, as well as the appointment of eminently qualified Nigerians to fill the Board positions.

The list was made up of 209 Chairmen and 1,258 members.

Selwa Hussain with her portable heart.

After a life-changing surgery, a British woman is ‘forced’ to carry her heart in a bag to remain alive.

Selwa Hussain, a 39-year-old British mother has had a life-changing operation so radical, she now effectively carries her heart in a backpack.

According to Metro UK, Selwa Hussain has become only the second-ever person in Britain to be given an artificial heart after a six-hour operation.

A battery-powered pump and electric motor inside the 15lb bag pushes air through tubes to feed plastic chambers in Selwa’s chest.

This pushes blood around her body. The mum-of-two, from Ilford, east London, was taken to Harefield Hospital, west London, in July after suffering heart failure.

She was too ill for a heart transplant and her husband Al agreed she be given an artificial organ.

Selwa’s diseased natural heart was removed by surgeons and replaced with an artificial implant and the specialist unit on her back at the hospital, famous across the world for its heart and lung centres. It cost £86,000 ($116,000) to make in the US.

‘I was so ill before and after the surgery that it has taken me all this time to get fit enough to come home,’ Selwa said this week. ‘Harefield have been absolutely magnificent. They came up with a solution that allowed me to stay alive to see the New Year in with my family. For that I am eternally grateful.’

Medics concluded Selwa’s sudden heart failure was caused by a condition called cardiomyopathy that can, in very rare cases, be triggered by pregnancy. The first person in the UK to have been given an artificial heart was a 50-year-old man in 2011.

The surgery was performed at Papworth Hospital near St Neots, Cambridgeshire.

A family in Thailand received the shock of their lives this month when the man they had cremated 7 months before casually walked through the front door as if nothing had happened.

According to Bangkok Post, the man, Sakorn Sacheewa, a 44-year-old from Thailand’s Si Ka Ket province, returned home after two years working on a fishing boat, in a different part of the country.

He had never once contacted his family during that time, so he didn’t really expect the warmest of receptions, but being treated as a ghost never crossed his mind either. Only that’s exactly how his family reacted when he walked through the door on December 17, touching him to make sure he was real. He later found out that to them he had been dead for 7 months.

Back in May, Sakorn’s family had been contacted by police in Nang Loeng, where he worked, and notified that he had died of a digestive disorder. They were asked to come identify and pick up the dead body. They travelled to the Phra Nakhon district of Bangkok, where they received a death certificate and later went to pick up the body from the Faculty of Medicine Vajira Hospital of Navamindradhiraj University.

The swollen dead body the family was shown was difficult to identify, but one of Sakorn’s cousins, 33-year-old Nakornchai Pimklang noticed that the cadaver’s teeth didn’t match those of Sakorn, who had two front teeth missing. He mentioned this to an official, who instructed the family to just pick up the body. They did so, taking it home to Si Ka Ket, where they held religious rites for three days, before cremating it.

Meanwhile, the real Sakorn Sacheewa was alive and well, working in Nang Loeng, as he had done for the last two years. A couple of weeks ago, he decided to quit his job and return home, not knowing how shocking his homecoming would be for his family.

After hearing the story of his death, Sakorn said that, at one point, a co-worker from Myanmar stole his identification card and disappeared, but he simply reported it missing and was issued a new one by the local authorities. He never imagined that someone would ever use his stolen card to impersonate him.

Sakorn Sacheewa’s main concern right now is to get resurrected by the Bureau of Registration Administration, which pronounced him officially dead 7 months ago, based on his death certificate.

There’s just one problem let for the police to solve now – to find out who the man cremated in Sakorn’s place was. They hope to learn this by analysing the bone relics left from the cremation.

Anwuka Chetachi assumpta 2016054027DE

A suspected murderer who had evaded capture for 12 years by pretending to be a mute has allegedly lost his ability to speak, Chinese media recently reported.

The Chinese man, identified only by his surname ‘Zheng’, had been charged with murdering his wife’s uncle, a Mr. Cao, in a dispute over a 500 yuan ($76) rent, back in 2005. During one of their heated arguments, Zheng, then 33, allegedly stabbed Mr. Cai, then ran from his home in Hangzhou, China’s Zhejiang Province, before authorities could apprehend him. The runaway murder suspect adopted the fake name of Wang Gui and started pretending to be a mute beggar in order to make ends meet.

Zheng eventually settled in a small village in Anhui Province, 700 km north of Hangzhou, where he began working in construction, while staying true to his mute persona. He even got a new wife and fathered a child, but never spoke a word to them, for fear of saying something that could blow his cover.

An entire Italian family suffer from a strange genetic mutation that makes them almost completely immune to pain. The condition is so rare that scientists have named it ‘The Marsili Syndrome’, after the family.

Letizia Marsili, 52, became aware of her immunity to pain in early childhood when she didn’t experience any particular sensation from burns or fractures. Five other members of her family, spanning at least three generations, also share this rare genetic anomaly that makes impervious to pain situations where an average person would require an anesthetic. The Marsilis have become the focus of researchers hoping to discover how their mutation works, in the hopes of developing new ways to treat pain.

If you’ve ever wondered why washing your pillow case every once in a while is so important, this case may give you an idea. A Chinese woman who, for some reason, hand’t washed her pillow case in five years recently turned up at a hospital in Wuhan, where doctors discovered over 100 mites living on her eyelashes.

The woman, known only as Ms. Xu, told doctors that her eyes had been red and itchy for around two years, but that she just simply got used to their condition and relied on over-the-counter eye drops to alleviate the symptoms, instead of seeing an ophthalmologist. It was only when the problem got so bad that her eyelashes and eyelids started getting stuck together that she finally decided it was time to get some professional help.

An 18 years old hair dresser, Theodora Ansah has had her neck slashed by her angry boyfriend, Raymond Boabey, a construction worker at Likpe Mate, a suburb of Hohoe in the Volta region, KasapaFMonline has reported.

The sad incident which happened in Ghana left the mother of two, a three year old and a one and half year old daughters in serious pain.

It was gathered that Theodora went into a fight with the boyfriend whom she is cohabiting with, around 7pm yesterday over one piece of meat she served him.

According to Theodora, she didn’t have enough to prepare her Christmas meal so she served him rice with one piece of meat which the boyfriend wasn’t happy about, so he confronted her angrily and slapped her in the process and kicked the lady out of his home.

On Thursday, 28th Decembers, he visited the lady to apologize and asked her to let him go home with her daughter from another man which she obliged. Hours later she went back for her daughter from him and he requested to have a chat which she agreed.

She added that he requested that they come back together and plan their marriage which she refused and her response infuriated him to start beating her till she managed to run leaving her daughter behind.

The victim said this prevented her from going far as she was scared he would harm the little girl. The suspect came back with cutlass with which he slashed her neck from behind and her left hand which she used to block the cutlass.

According to her, this attack is the third since she started a relationship with Raymond. She is currently on admission at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

http://massmediang.com/health-10-most-common-habits-that-damage-your-kidneys/

Anwuka Chetachi assumpta 2016054027DE

If you love your health you better read this article. Even if you knew about these facts before now it won’t be a bad idea to refresh your memory. In these days of frequent cases of kidney failure. it is worth the while to spend a few seconds to find out how you can safeguard your own kidney. You will be surprised to see that you have been making these mistakes for a long time. Read this piece now.

10 Most Common Habits That Damage Your Kidneys

Kidneys are one of the vital body organs, as their function is to eliminate waste and toxins from the body through the urine.

Thus, they regulate the levels of minerals, such as calcium, and phosphate.

Additionally, kidneys regulate blood pressure as they produce essential hormones which are necessary for this function, as well as for the formation of red blood cells whose responsibility is to carry oxygen and nutrients throughout the body.

Therefore, it is of high importance to support the proper function of kidneys. If it is obstructed in some way, you may experience some of the following symptoms: vomiting, bad breath, changed urine in color and quality, dizziness, itchy skin, breathing issues, sudden pain, anemia, fatigue or tiredness, or feeling cold most of the time.

If you notice some of these warning signs, you should visit your doctor and check the situation. Kidney issues may often be a result of different factors, but some of the following most common habits contribute to their damage as well:

Insufficient Intake of Water

Lack of water in the body may lead to significant kidney damage, as blood will get so concentrated that there the blood flow to the kidneys will be reduced.

In this way, the ability of kidneys to eliminate toxins from the body will be impeded, and as toxins accumulate in the body, the number of diseases and health issues will increase.

The recommended amount of water daily is at least 10-12 glasses in the case of an adult person. Yet, make sure you do not exaggerate as excessive amounts of water may harden the kidney function.

Delaying the Urge to Urinate

This is one of the most common causes of damage to the kidneys, as the urine remains in the bladder longer, as it supports the multiplication of bacteria in the urine.

These harmful bacteria cause urinary tract and kidney infections. Moreover, retaining the urine applies pressure to the kidneys and leads to renal failure and urinary incontinence. Hence, note that you should never postpone the urge to urinate.

Cigarettes

Smoking is a really detrimental habit, which damages all body organs, including the kidneys. Numerous studies have found a link between smoking and kidney disease, and according to the American Association of Kidney Patients (AAKP), smoking is the number one cause of ESRD (end-stage renal disease).

This bad habit raises blood pressure and the heart rate, and reduces the blood flow and narrows the blood vessels in kidneys. Moreover, it aggravated kidney diseases and accelerates the loss of the function of kidneys.

High Protein Diet

The consumption of excessive amounts of protein-based foods, such as red meat, increases the risk of kidney disease, as the function of these organs is to eliminate and metabolize nitrogenous wastes from the body, which are by-products of the digestion of protein.

The excessive consumption of protein chronically increases the glomerular pressure and hyperfiltration, thus raising the metabolic load of kidneys, and leading to the development of kidney issues.

Hence, you should limit the intake of red meat, and in the case of kidney issues, completely eliminate it from your diet, in order to prevent further complications.

High Intake of Salt

The regular use of high amounts of salt severely damages the kidneys and leads to various health problems.

To be more precise, kidneys metabolize even 95% of the sodium consumed through food, and in the case of excessive amounts of salt, kidneys need to work much harder to excrete it, and their function is reduced, and the body retains water. Water retention may increase the blood pressure and the risk of kidney disease.

Numerous studies suggest that the consumption of salt increases the amount of urinary protein, which contributes to the development of kidney disease. Note that all excess salt you intake causes harm to your body, especially to your kidneys, and a teaspoon contains around 6 grams.

Lack of Sleep

Numerous people ignore the importance of rest and sleep. However, a good night sleep of 6- 8 hours is essential for the body. The organ tissues renew during the sleep, so in the case of sleep deficiency, these processes will be stopped, leading to damage of body organs.

Numerous studies have shown that improper sleep leads to increased clogging of the arteries (atherosclerosis) and high blood pressure, which elevated the chances for development of kidney diseases.

Hence, make sure you always find a perfect balance between work and sleep, rest and leisure and everyday tasks, as this has a major impact on your overall health, including your kidneys.

Regular Use of Analgesics

Numerous people use various painkillers, analgesics, and medications, to treat pain, reduce inflammation, and cure various issues. Yet, these drugs damage your kidneys, as well as other body organs.

Research has shown that over-the-counter analgesics can reduce the blood flow to the kidneys and obstruct their function. Thus, the long-term use of these drugs leads to chronic kidney diseases, such as acute kidney injury or interstitial nephritis.

Note that you should consult your doctor before using any of these drugs, and make sure you take analgesics shortly, as they can cause damage to the ones with normal kidney function as well.

Excessive amounts of Caffeine

Too much caffeine increases the blood pressure, and applied pressure to the kidneys, leading to kidney damage. According to a 2002 study published in Kidney International, the consumption of caffeine is directly linked to kidney stones, as caffeine increases the excretion of calcium in the urine.

Yet, moderate consumption of drinks like coffee or tea will not be harmful, but you should reduce the intake of energy drinks, chocolate, medications, cocoa, and soft drinks.

Too Much Alcohol

This toxin leads to stress on the kidneys and liver, and its excessive amounts lead to damage of the kidneys. If you drink alcohol a lot, the uric acid will be stored in the renal tubules, leading to the tubular obstruction which elevates the risk of kidney failure.

Additionally, alcohol dehydrates the body and thus destroys the normal function of the kidneys. The advised amount of alcohol a day is a glass for women and elder people, and 2 drinks for men.

Ignoring Common Infections

Kidney damage may also result by neglecting the existence of infections, such as coughs, colds, flu, tonsillitis, and pharyngitis. If you leave a common infection untreated, you may develop kidney damage, so you should always make sure you give a proper rest to the body, use antibiotics properly, and treat these issues on time.

http://massmediang.com/review-check-out-the-best-nollywood-movies-of-2017/

Anwuka Chetachi assumpta 2016054027DE

The entertainment industry in Nigeria has recorded tremendous success to the extent of measuring up with what obtains in the developing world. The movie industry in Nigeria called Nollywood, is the third largest in the World (behind Hollywood and Bollywood). The year 2017 witnessed a lot of interesting productions in the industry. This article provides the best Nollywood movies of 2017 with facts to back it up. Read it.

The Best Nollywood Movies Of 2017

Only Nollywood films that had major cinema releases, or were premiered during the calendar year were considered for this list. Ranked in ascending order. From romantic comedies to twisty thrillers, we summarize the year in film.

10. The Wedding Party 2: Destination Dubai

The sequel to Nollywood’s biggest film delivers exactly what it promises, no more no less. It isn’t better than it has a right to be, and no worse than it could have been. The entire gang returns for another romp of escapism and jolly good fun. Niyi Akinmolayan grabs the helm and delivers a sequel that knows exactly what its audience wants.

9. Potato Potahto

Potato Potahto certainly remains pretty to look at, even when the screenplay begins to sag with repetition. The sets are colourful and costumes were designed to both grab attention and flatter the actors, particularly Jocelyn Dumas, who is a designer’s dream to dress; and Lala Akindoju, who flaunts legs that stretch from Accra to Ankara.

8. Couple’s Award

It isn’t a complete picture that Couple’s Award, as written and directed by Kehinde Olorunyomi Odukoya presents, plus, there is that troublesome itch to reach for a crowd-pleasing ending. Looking beyond this though, Couple’s Award is a finely acted, well presented effort that is marked by a rich story and a somewhat faithful execution. Shame it wasn’t widely seen.

7. King Invincible

Ultimately, King Invincible is a director’s film and Femi Adisa’s hard work and vision is what is most striking about the entire picture. His passion is visible in every shot, and in every fight scene. He falters on occasion, with what he gets in (clustered sets, unimpressive supporting actors) and with what he leaves out (a pivotal battle scene that could have told more of the hero’s character) but anyone can see that bigger things are sure to come from him.

6. Slow Country

Slow Country moves with a deliberate pace until it gets to the bloody shootout that is really where director Eric Aghimien’s heart lies. He unspools a final act that is impressive in its stunt work and easy command of visual effects. It would be unjust to dismiss Slow Country as a minor work from a promising auteur. Pretty obvious Aghimien has plenty more things to teach Nollywood. Someone just needs to give him a budget worth his talent.

5. Banana Island Ghost (BIG)

The real star of BIG is the picture. Sasore manages something special here with drone shots and visual effects that tell a story all their own. His cinematography is pretty basic but the pictures are lit up to near perfection, only interrupted by the over enthusiastic product placements. Watch out for Akah Nnani who steals his scenes and makes quite the impression as a hopeless police sergeant.

4. CaTCH.eR

A basic police procedural – to the extent that it can be called one – masquerading as a clever whodunit, CaTCH.eR turns out to be more tame domestic drama, albeit with some blood and gore, than edge-of-your-seat thriller. The attraction for the young actors, must have been the chance to work with Taylaur, a filmmaker who with a soft focus on style and action, is setting himself up as one of Nollywood’s thinking men.

3. Hakkunde

In many respects, Hakkunde is the story of contemporary Nigeria, a witty, emotional exploration of what it means to be young and Nigerian. Set in Lagos and Kaduna, Hakkunde places one young graduate’s quest for dignity at the center of a larger, more encompassing story of resourcefulness, doggedness and the importance of community.

2. Isoken

Isoken builds up to a satisfying, if cluttered ending as the usual romantic comedy tropes are ticked off. Director Jade Osiberu’s imprints are all over the film as she unspools the sights and sounds of contemporary upperclass Lagos living. Her camera work is deft and even when she needn’t bother; she comes up with interesting ways of presenting her picture.

1. Ojukokoro

With its voice over narration, noir-ish mood, ensemble cast and time bending snap structure, Dare Olaitan has obviously studied the iconic films of auteurs like Quentin Tarantino (Reservoir Dogs) and Guy Ritchie (Snatch). He pays homage to them in ways that may seem obvious but makes it clear that his vision is no lazy copy, as he situates his madcap story very much in present day Nigeria.

http://massmediang.com/review-check-out-the-best-music-albums-of-2017/

Anwuka Chetachi assumpta 2016054027DE

The music industry in Nigeria could be described as the most creative and original sub-sector in the entertainment industry. Nigerian artists won international awards this year, an indication of the level of recognition this industry has received across the globe. A group of experts have compiled a list of the best Music albums dropped in 2017. Read this article to get the facts.

The Best Music Albums Of 2017

Sifting through the loads and loads of music put out during the calendar year, we made use of parameters such as audience acceptance, pop culture effect, quality of recording and lyrical content to assemble our 10 best albums of 2017.

10. Ijele The Traveller – Flavour

The album’s title is steeped in Igbo masquerade culture, where the Ijele is recognised as the largest and most ceremonial of them all. Masterkraft oversees the bulk of the project and incorporates the traditional instruments such as drums, ogene, and ekwe but just before you are about to entertain the thought that Flavour is finally making the pure highlife record he was born to make, he capitulates and dilutes the punch. Everyone has to be satisfied.

9. The Glory – Olamide

Every December for the last six years, Olamide has put out an album of new material. The critics haven’t always been kind. And for good reason too. Look no further than this year’s messy entry, Lagos Na Wa. Released in the twilight of 2016, The Glory is his sixth studio album and the Olamide that shows up here is a (gasp!) grown man. At a respectable (by his standards) sixteen tracks length, The Glory is almost sparse, as Olamide begins to consider his legacy both as an artiste and as a father.

8. Illy Bomaye -Ill Bliss

After fatherhood comes introspection it seems and while this is a trajectory that has worked for everyone from Jay Z and Eminem, no one wears the role quite like Ill Bliss. As on past albums, on Illy Bomaye, the rapper’s fifth studio album, Ill Bliss does introspection quite well. With little or no A-list help, Ill Bliss and his team of producers (Tha Suspect, Major Bangz) put together some powerful verses set to deep ominous beats.

7. Timeless -Omawumi

For her third merry go round, Omawumi could not have taken a more divergent approach. Signed to a new management and with an eye on the international market, Omawumi has carefully downplayed her considerable hit making abilities and embraced a richer, fuller, jazzier sound – one that mixes Fela Kuti and the throbbing pull of Afrobeat with the vivacious scatting of jazz songstresses gone by. If the album had stayed true to the energy of the first half, Timeless might have topped this list.

6. Blessed Forever -A-Q

Thinker. Troublemaker. Veteran. Genius. All these parts of A-Q show up and battle for prominence on Blessed Forever, his fourth studio record and follow up to the brilliant Rose album. Nothing much has changed since he last put an album out. A-Q on Blessed Forever is just as crazy, just as brilliant, and this time, quite emotional. Divided into five acts, the record is inventive with hot takes like Lekki Expressway showing his inventive, subversive side.

5. Niniola -This is Me

Home to Maradona and Sicker, two of the biggest Afro-house anthems of the year, Niniola’s debut has more goodies embedded within. Jam-packed with slick, sexy, power dance tunes delivered with relish, in both English and Yoruba. First albums aren’t usually this assured but having spent a couple of years, developing her craft, This Is Me is Niniola burrowing in, carving her own niche, and then bursting out the gate confident in her abilities.

4. Agberos International -Bantu

For regulars at Afropolitan Vibes, the premier live music gig in Lagos put together by Ade Bantu and his 13-man band, Agberos International is simply a continuation of the quarterly visits to the Muri Okunola Park. Familiar yet refreshingly so, the music on Agberos International is an amalgam of Afrobeat, jazz, rap and performance poetry. Standout track, Niger Delta Blues, featuring legendary Fela Kuti collaborator, Tony Allen, is by itself worth the price of admission.

3. For You -Cobhams

For his first album as a solo artiste, Cobhams Asuquo abandons the trappings of fame and lure of the bright lights and makes a complete gospel album that astounds in its craftsmanship and overflows with richness. Technically the project is faultless. The finish is of international quality and Asuquo’s big booming voice is placed at the center of the affecting ballads that make up the album. The entire experience is a thoroughly pleasurable and enveloping, yet intimate encounter with the Most High.

2. Simisola -Simi

2017 was the year X3M Music’s years long investment in Simi, the awkward but terrific singer, songwriter and sound engineer finally paid off, reaping well deserved rewards from Lagos to London. Responsible for this was the arrival of her debut album with X3M, the gloriously imagined, conceptualized and delivered Simisola. Simisola is easily the most enjoyable disc put forward this year, boasting delightful songwriting, beautiful melodies and sublime singing.

1. Musa Jikan Musa -Morell

The city of Jos has contributed its fair share to the music business (2face, the Abaga brothers) but because of the humanitarian crises in that part of the country, somehow the North seems to have been written out of pop culture. Morell is here to address that. He takes on this responsibility without being self-aware and delivers a debut disc that is proudly reflective of his origins, yet bears a finish that is ready to cross over. Musa Jikan Musa’s unique blend of traditional instrumentation, impressive songwriting and delicious rhymes is almost second to none.

Amazing Church members and staff ordered to kneel down before they greet pastor?

Anwuka Chetachi assumpta 2016054027DE

As soon as Bishop Emmanuel Esezobor arrived at the church premises for an event, staff and church followers knelt down to greet him.

If church members are kneeling down for pastors by way of showing reverence, one is then tempted to wonder what they will do when they see the savior of the world himself, especially on the judgement day.

It might sound awkward to you, but that was exactly what happened at the Firehouse Church in Nyanya, Abuja, Nigeria when its senior pastor arrived.

Senator Francis Okpozo, who died at 81, in 2016, has been named Chairman, Nigerian Press Council (NPC).

Also on the list is late retired Deputy Inspector General of Police and elder statesman, Donald Ugbaja.

The late Ugbaja was appointed member of Consumer Protection Council. His name is the third on the list of the council whose chairman is Emeka Nwakpa.

The two men are among the 209 chairmen and 1,258 members appointed to fill the governing boards of agencies and parastatals positions.

The Presidency had issued a statement on December 28, 2016 expressing condolences to his family and the government of Delta State on his death.

Until his death, Late Okpozo was a Second Republic senator and member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement by the presidential spokesman, Mr. Femi Adesina, the President also commiserated with “the family and friends of the late senator, whose championing of social justice in the Niger Delta, during his long history of service to the people, endeared him to many.”

The statement added that “As a stalwart of the APC in the South-South, President Buhari believes that the party greatly benefited from the octogenarian’s charismatic leadership and wealth of experience as a politician.”

The President also “hopes that all who mourn Senator Okpozo will carry forward his legacy of unwavering dedication to the unity of Nigeria, even as the nation would fondly remember his contributions to peace, development and justice in the Niger Delta.”

Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, on November 28th, 2017 also in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Charles Aniagwu, described the late Ugbaja as a complete gentleman, a thorough bred officer, who contributed his own quota to serving his country and humanity.

The appointments which was released late Saturday night to mainly online media by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, read: “Mr. President considered the approval for the constitution of the Boards as well as the appointments, very necessary, so as to provide a proper Governance and oversight structure for Government Agencies and Parastatals. The constitution of the boards with the appointments, is a demonstration of this Government’s efforts aimed at building strong institutions of Governance, and by extension, improving the quality of Policy formulation and supervision.

Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh revealed that she spent a whooping sum of Five Million Naira on her butt surgery.

The actress who recently made it public that she had some cosmetic surgeries done on her body due to insecurities revealed this a while ago on her Instagram platform.

Tonto Dikeh who was having fun with her son Andre had said it for the benefits of the camera and all who cared to listen that she was risking her five million Naira butt on the plastic ride.

The mother of one had gone under the knife after nursing her son because she was ashamed of her body. The actress had used the services of a hospital in Lagos.

Now we know that Tonto Dikeh had thrown a huge amount into the surgery, but we can’t say if the Five million covered the bosom and butt surgery or just the butt, reports Lailasblog.

A woman was left with a silicone implant protruding out of her skin between her eyes after a botched nose job.

The patient, from the city of Hat Yai in southern Thailand, had the implant inserted into her nose to give it a more prominent shape.

But after the op she suffered from several infections and inflammation around the area where the implant was.

Shockingly the implant pierced through the skin between her eyes and began protruding out of her nose.

The woman, who did not want to be named, claims she went back to the clinic and asked them to correct the damage but they refused to help her.

Desperate for help the woman sought help at a cosmetic surgery hospital in Bangkok where she received free treatment.

Doctors removed the implant and treated the infection.

But she has been left with a crater in her nose where the silicone implant used to be.

She is still waiting for medics to decide the best way to repair her botched nose job.

The woman shared her worrying experience on social media and the pictures have since gone viral, with many cosmetic surgery centres sharing her story in a bid to warn other women of the dangers of cheap cosmetic surgery.

Silicone implants are a form of cosmetic surgery designed to change the shape of a person’s face, cheeks or nose by using a specially shaped piece of silicone.

Unlike in other procedures, silicone implants do not require a surgeon to cut away and cartilage or bone – they are designed as a quicker, easier way to achieve the same effect.

However there are some concerns about chemicals like silicone being used in patient’s faces.

Some surgeons have raised concerns that implants do not become incorporated into the surrounding bone and tissue, instead they sit under the skin which makes them more prone to moving.

Leading cosmetic surgeons have also raised concerns about the use of cosmetic fillers injected into the face to plump it up.

Dermal fillers are injections used to fill out wrinkles and to plump up the volume of the lips and cheeks.

http://massmediang.com/blind-to-the-risks-cosmetic-fillers-injected-anywhere-in-your-face-could-leave-you-blind-top-plastic-surgeon-warns/

Anwuka Chetachi assumpta 2016054027DE

This story is some form of serious warning to those who engage in various forms of cosmetic society today.

There’s been a sharp rise in the number of patients suffering complications after having botched fillers, prompting calls for better regulation, Professor Ash Mosahebi told The Sun Online.

The consultant plastic surgeon at the Royal Free Hospital in London, said: “A filler is like injecting a paste.

“And if that paste somehow goes into the blood vessel that connects to the retina at the back of the eye – which is where you see the world through – it can lead to blindness.

“It is unusual, uncommon and unlucky, but if it is not done carefully it can happen.”

Prof Mosahebi, who has 20 years of experience in his field, admitted he prefers not to inject fillers around the eye due to the potential risks involved.

And he warned fillers can be bought over the counter and injected by unqualified practitioners or even people at home.

He added: “I have seen horrendous infections in the face where patients have ended up in [intensive care] with a life-threatening infection.

“If it is not done in a proper way, in a clean environment, it causes infection.

“I haven’t, thankfully, seen a case [where someone has lost their sight] but I have read about it.

“We are seeing complications more and more because [fillers] are getting more popular.”

Dermal fillers are injections used to fill out wrinkles and to plump up the volume of the lips and cheeks.

They contain a variety of ingredients such as collagen and hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in humans to help keep certain body parts such as they eyes and skin hydrated.

These fillers can have a temporary or permanent effect.

new study from South Korea, published this week, examined the cases of nine patients around the world who suffered vision loss after having fillers injected.

The study, published in the Journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, said: “All nine patients were female, ranging in age from 26 to 45 years and in all cases hyaluronic acid fillers were injected by doctors, including board-certified plastic surgeons and dermatologists.

“Improvement of visual acuity [clarity] in patients with vascular occlusion [blood clots] after filler injection is extremely rare, and there has been no total recovery of vision after initial injury.”

Last year the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons’ (BAAPS) revealed 90 per cent of plastic surgeons recorded a rise in the number of patients being dangerously misinformed about cosmetic surgery.

The survey of the BAAPS council also found that two in five surgeons have seen problems with unregulated dermal fillers over the last three years.

But they believe the problems, which include swelling, infection and skin irritation could be avoided if such treatments were properly regulated.

BAAPS has led calls for all dermal fillers to be classified as prescription-only medicine that could only be injected by a registered doctor.

Mum-of-two Mary Catchpole, 46, decided to get hyaluronic acid cosmetic fillers between her eyebrows, around her eyes and in her cheeks two weeks before her wedding in August 2011.

Mary, from Romford in Essex, spent £600 hoping it would boost her looks ahead of her special day.

But what happened afterwards was a far cry from a fairytale wedding her and husband Chris had hoped for.

http://massmediang.com/review-biggest-entertainment-event-flops-of-2017/

Anwuka Chetachi assumpta 2016054027DE

As year 2017 comes to an end, various industries are taking a look at how they performed throughout the year. The entertainment industry in Nigeria has always been a source of pride to the entire nation. The industry also made serious positive impact in the society in 2017 with big highs that impressed the audience and a few lows that were embarrassing. This review by Saturday Beats of PUNCH provides an insight on a few embarrassing flops in the entertainment industry in 2017. Read it!

Biggest Entertainment Event Flops of 2017

The Nigerian entertainment industry had a slow start as regards events at the beginning of 2017 but later picked up towards the tail end of the year. Saturday Beats reviews some of the biggest event flops and disappointments in 2017.

Majek Fashek 30 years on stage and album lunch

In his heyday, veteran singer, Majek Fashek, was highly regarded by music lovers locally and internationally for to his musical prowess. In fact, some people believed in the power of his songs. For instance, ‘Send down the rain’ was considered to be so powerful that whenever he performed it on open fields, the heavens opened.

But that was in his glory days. Years down the line and the musical has-been has become a shadow of his former self. His concert, ‘Majek Fashek 30 years on stage and album lunch’, which was meant to celebrate the singer turned out to be a big flop and it would go down in the history as one of the most poorly attended shows in 2017, both by celebrities and fans.

Despite the fact that the show started late, the venue of the event was deserted, while the seats reserved for VIPs were virtually empty. The hall was so sparsely occupied that the organisers had to literally beg the few people in the regular section to occupy the tables meant for their VIP guests, which were close to the stage. While on stage the singer’s manager, Uzo, mentioned that he had to put his car up as collateral for the hall because they could not pay the full amount required to rent it. Sadly, the former rainmaker could not even make it drizzle on his concert.

COSON Song Awards 2017

Copyright Society of Nigeria is one of the bodies charged with getting royalties and other necessary dues for artistes in the country. So, one would have thought that the event would be a star-studded affair. Sadly, the event was more or less like a gathering of has-beens and wannabes.

Despite the fact that the event started late, most of the winners of the award were unavailable to receive their plaques.

The interior decoration for the event was poorly and shabbily done and the sitting arrangement at the venue could be likened to that of a seminar or church service. Although there were different tags for VIPs and regular guests, it was not duly followed and people sat down anywhere they liked. The show was so unappealing and Saturday Beats observed that no celeb from the new generation was present.

Best of Nollywood Awards

The first edition of the Best of Nollywood Awards held on December 6, 2009; that was eight years ago. But till date, the organisers of the award have not got their act together. After all, a child that was born about eight years ago should be preparing to round off their primary school education.

Compared to other Nollywood award ceremonies, BON Awards, which held in Ogun State, seemed like a joke.

When it comes to movie award ceremonies, celebrities show their impeccable style, especially on the red carpet and it was not different with BON Awards. However, the show was so poorly put together that Saturday Beatsheard a notable Nollywood actress complaining that she wasted a good dress for the event.

One of the organisers actually confided in Saturday Beats that this year’s edition was poorly put together. There was a very low turnout of people and the hall looked so deserted that anyone could quickly do a headcount of those present.

The event started late and Saturday Beatsgathered that as soon as the state governor, Ibikunle Amosun, got to the venue and realised that the event had yet to start, he left.

The biggest joke of the night came when the organisers announced that the ceremony was over and as the few people in attendance were making their way to the door, a voice on the microphone said, ‘Excuse me, ladies and gentlemen, did you people notice that we skipped a category? Can we please be seated briefly?’ Some of the attendees laughed as they headed for the way out, while some others hissed furiously, out of irritation.

Lagos State Street Carnival

Most people who attended the Lagos State Street Carnival, which held at Oba Akran Road, would want to forget about it as quickly as possible.

The show, which was meant to hold between 12 pm and about 7 pm, started late; therefore, extending the 7 pm deadline. Saturday Beatslearnt that when it was getting dark, the show began to get rowdy, especially for the ladies. Some hoodlums also used the opportunity to harass some ladies. While narrating her experience to Saturday Beats, a young lady said, “I was bored at home, so my friend and I decided to attend the carnival. We noticed that the place was very rowdy and men, who were smoking, used the situation to assault women. They pressed my buttocks and breasts and my friend also had the same experience. So, we had to leave.”

The state government had to use its initiative to stop the show before things went out of hands and this denied some fans the opportunity to see their favourite artistes perform on stage. One of such artistes was CDQ, who took to his Instagram page the next day to apologise to his fans.

He said in the caption of a picture he posted, “To all blessed fans. Absolutely sorry we couldn’t perform last night @ the Lagos street carnival due to the order from the Lagos State Governor to stop the show as the environment was becoming in-conducive to the public good (sic). I was actually on time as agreed by the agency and my management.”

Anwuka Chetachi assumpta 2016054027DE

The Lagos State Government could begin taxing religious centers if the Land Use Charge review, which has reportedly passed second reading at the state plenary, is passed into law,New Telegraph reports.

The house speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, said the law is intended to generate revenue for the state.

The law, tagged “A Bill for A Law To Repeal The Land Use Charge Law 2001 and Enact Land Use Charge 2017 and For Connected Purposes” has reportedly been committed to the House Ad-hoc Committee on Finance headed by Honorable Yinka Ogundimu.

Obasa decried the current situation of a few collectors working with the state to collect the Land Use Charge, saying more are need for the state to be completely covered. He said:

We need more consultants to do the job so that the entire state could be covered in the collection of land use charge. Whatever tribunal that would be set up to deal with offenders should have the support of the government.

He added that while Non-Government Organizations may be exempted from the bill, religious organizations will not “because most of the worship centres are making money.”

http://massmediang.com/backslide-okorocha-restores-assumpta-avenue-name/

Anwuka Chetachi assumpta 2016054027DE

Imo State Government has bowed to the superior force of the Catholic Church and restored Assumpta Avenue street name.

The government action came barely a few hours after Vanguard hit the news stand with growing tension generated by what some respondents called “the unwholesome renaming of Assumpta Avenue”.

Confirming the restoration of the street name, the Commissioner for Information, Professor Nnamdi Obiaraeri, said that it was never government’s intention to rename the said strategic road, which he claimed spans from Assumpta Cathedral and terminates at Warehouse Roundabout.

“Assumpta Avenue is symbolic for both religious and historic reasons in Imo State, and these facts are not lost on the government and people of Imo State.

All inconveniences occasioned by the initial oversight or error of wrongly installing a Street sign, suggesting a renaming of the street is highly regretted”, Obiaraeri said.

In his own reaction, the Catholic Archbishop of Owerri Ecclesiastical Province, His Grace, Dr. Anthony J. V. Obinna, said that there was no need to celebrate the restoration of the street name by Governor Rochas Okorocha.

“Catholics were already putting heads together to face the unwarranted and most uncharitable frontal attack on the Church, when he retraced his locus. His misdeed had already reached the ends of the earth before he did the needful”, Archbishop Obinna said.

Answering a question, the cleric wondered why Okorocha wants to destroy everything that predated his administration, including Assumpta Avenue.

In his own reaction, an Owerri based legal practitioner, Mr. Chikaodi Igbokwe, reasoned that “if a rabbit enters a hole with speed and jams a snake in that hole, it will reverse with a turbo speed”.

While saying that any leader who plays God will certainly commit deadly blunders, Mr. Igbokwe also opined that “this mistake exceeds the allegation of slapping a Revered Father”.

“After that rumour gained ground, nothing could save that government. As I said earlier, time will tell”, Igbokwe said.

Reacting also, a Catholic Knight, Sir McDonald Ebere said: ” Rochas
Okorocha has finally bowed to the power of Catholics. This is the beginning of the end and there shall be no end until the beginning ends”.

Meanwhile, Catholic laity have declared three days of fasting and prayers in Imo State.

According to an online directive, Catholics and their well wishers were asked to do this “for God to manifest His power in Imo State, and deliver His children from the evil leadership of Governor Rochas Okorocha”.

Catholics were asked to begin the fasting and prayer from December 29-31, starting from 6am-12noon, while recitation of the Rosary starts 12noon.

“Strict adherence to this call will go a long way to salvage Imo State.

Our Lady will surely crush the ugly serpent that is raising its head in Imo State now. Catholics stand up to your faith and win this spiritual battle. God is with us. We shall live to see the end of this evil. The heavenly beings are greater than all the principalities here on earth. We will surely overcome”, the directive added.

The 2018 edition of World Day of Peace as declared by Pope Francis is scheduled to hold on New Year Day, January 1, 2018 with the theme: ‘Migrants and Refugees: Men and Women in search of Peace’.

The World Peace Day is set aside annually by the Holy See to spread the gospel of peaceful co-existence amongst peoples of the world.

At the Archdiocese of Lagos, the event will kick off with a Holy Mass at the Holy Cross Cathedral with the Archbishop of Lagos, Most Rev. Alfred Adewale Martins as the Chief Celebrant, to be assisted by the Director of Social Communicators, Msgr. Gabriel Osu. Time is 9.00 a.m.

The event will also witness the full participation of members of Catholic Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (CAMPAN), Papal Knights/Medalists, top government functionaries and members of the diplomatic corps. Catholic laity in Imo State have declared three days of fasting and prayers against what they described as ‘evil leadership’ of Governor Rochas Okorocha.

This came shortly after the Catholic Church forced the Governor to reverse the renaming of Assumpta Avenue street name due to growing tension over the renaming. Recall that Okorocha has been renaming major streets in the State capital, Owerri, and renamed Assumpta Avenue Street in the process, reports VANGUARD.

According to an online directive, Catholics and their well wishers were asked to do this “for God to manifest His power in Imo State, and deliver His children from the evil leadership of Governor Rochas Okorocha”.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Friday bagged a PhD in Christian Theology after 163 minutes of robust defense of his voluminous thesis before a 6 – man panel at the National Open University of Nigeria(NOUN), Abeokuta Study Centre, Ogun State.

The panelists are Prof. Deji Ayegboyin (Major Supervisor), Dr. Mustapha Raheem Adejoro,( Head of Department, Religious Studies,NOUN), Prof. Nebath Tanglang(School of Postgraduate Studies, NOUN), Dr. Samaila Mande(Dean, Postgraduate School,NOUN), Prof. Godwin Akper (Internal Supervisor and Dean, Faculty of Arts,NOUN) and Prof. Cletus Gotan(External Supervisor).

Asked by Dr. Samaila Mande, who chaired the panel, to justify in a nutshell why he should be awarded a PhD degree of the institution, Obasanjo said he had put in “enough study” and “intellectual rigours” to produce his work based on diligent guide and supervision from his teachers and supervisors.

And speaking on behalf of the Panel at the end of the final defence, Dr. Mande said the Obasanjo has satisfied the requirements and thus qualified for the award of Doctor of Philosophy degree in Christian Theology of NOUN.

Mande said it was a thing joy to him as the ex – President happened to be one of the pioneer students to bag PhD in Christian Theology under his management, expressing the confidence that the feat would be well celebrated during the NOUN convocations.

Obasanjo’s PhD Thesis is titled: “Resolving the Unfinished Agenda in Liberation Theology: Leadership, Poverty and Underdevelopment in North Eastern Nigeria.”

A 65-year-old Nigerian batik and textile designer who is a respected lecturer at Harvard University is an international symbol.

The Nigerian woman identified as Nike Okundaye makes the Africa and Nigeria proud with her creativity and talent despite the fact that the woman has no formal education as she dropped out of secondary school at a young age.

It was gathered that the woman who is from Ogidi, Kogi state learnt the craft of batik and textile design from her great-grandmother who was an “adire” (tie and dye) fabric designer.

She grew up in an environment that practiced weaving and dyeing of fabrics. Okundaye’s father Nicolas Ojo was also a basket weaver and a drummer. Before she became the symbolic icon she is today, Okundaye went through a hard life.

After dropping out, Okundaye began to teach herself at home. In an interview, she explained that her type of education was something that was passed down instead of taught.

She said: “The type of education I had at the time was the education that is passed from parents to their children not the education you get in a classroom. It was the practical type of education.”

The talented woman used her skills to build something creative. She has an art gallery that showcases her designs in Lagos and Abuja. Her ideas for paintings, adire designs, batik and beadworks are also used to teach students at her training centres. The centres are located in Kogi and Osun state.

Okundaye also teaches international students. She has trained a number of students from Europe, Canada and the United States.

NAIJ.com gathered that the talented artist has also received recognition from the White House. She was patronized by both Bill Clinton and George Bush.
