“I am a youth and I am delighted to serve my fatherland.

“NYSC is also a leadership development programme and since I will not remain a youth forever, I have to start preparing myself for the future,’’ he said.

He was posted to Lagos for the mandatory one-year NYSC programme.

Luka Modric beating Cristiano Ronaldo to top UEFA award 'ridiculous', says Jorge Mendes

Cristiano Ronaldo's agent Jorge Mendes has slammed UEFA's decision to name Real Madrid's Luka Modric as Men's Player of the Year as "ridiculous".

Real Madrid players dominated the awards handed out at the Champions League group stage draw in Monaco, Modric also being named Champions League midfielder of the season.

Ronaldo had to make do with the best Champions League forward award, while his former Real team-mate Sergio Ramos was named defender of the year and Keylor Navas claimed goalkeeper honours.Real beat Liverpool 3-1 to win the Champions League for the third season in a row and 13th time overall.

But Mendes was furious that Ronaldo, who signed for Juventus earlier this summer, did not beat out Modric for best player honours after scoring 15 goals and finishing as the competition's top scorer.

Modric received 313 points in the vote, which included 60 coaches and 55 journalists from across Europe, to beat Ronaldo by 90 points with Liverpool's Mo Salah finishing a distant third.

Speaking to Portuguese outlet Record, Mendes said: "Football is played on the field and that's where Cristiano won.

"He scored 15 goals, carried Real Madrid on his back and conquered the Champions League again.

"It's ridiculous, shameful. The winner is not in doubt, as Ronaldo is the best in his position."

Mendes' thoughts were echoed by Juventus chief executive Giuseppe Marotta, who brought Ronaldo to Turin in the summer's biggest transfer.

He said: "I take nothing away from the decision of journalists and coaches, but I would have voted for Cristiano Ronaldo and I say that as a football fan.

"It would be nice for us to count some players among those who were given awards, but football is a team sport and we will face this Champions League with great determination."

Reno Omokri Reacts To Davido's NYSC Photos, Despite Being A Superstar

Reno Omokri praises billionaire son and music superstar Davido who is set to serve Nigeria compulsorily at National Youth Service Corp, he also slams president Buhari for protecting Kemi Adeosun not to serve this nation during her own NYSC time.

See his tweet below…

If
@iam_Davido
, a billionaire son, a multimillionaire in his own right and an international music superstar who makes Nigeria proud, can serve his nation in the compulsory National Youth Service Corp, then why didn’t
@HMKemiAdeosun
? And why is
@MBuhari
protecting her?

Role of a woman in reletionship

Copyright © protection. This is written by Kingsley .
This article is strictly my own opinion and view.

1. The lady should look after her man:
God in his infinite wisdom made the woman to be more domestic and organised in the affairs of the house. In this area a lady who really cares about a guy and loves him should be able to help Behind his appearance, environment and even his fridge.

2. Develope an excellent communication with her man:
if a lady understands the importance of a relationship then it shouldn’t take her long to understand the importance of communication. If you are in a relationship and as a lady u don’t tell ur man ur day to day activities including those who made attempt at toasting u then ur indirectly leaving a door of temptation open for outsiders to come into ur life and disrupt the balance between you two. You should be able to know his fears and weakness and equally tell him urs too. True communication comes with openness and oneness.

3. Become his confidant:
If ur man trusts u he will tell you things.its ur duty to be his jisting mate and someone he can confide in. If ur too busy to avail urself for him then know that ur capable of been replaced in the nearest future.

4. Be loyal and faithful:
No matter how beautiful you are as a lady or how high class you are, if you are not faithful, loyal and submissive to ur man, he will dump you! Get this straight every man prides in the fidelity of his woman and if the lady can’t ‘sit down’ in one place then she is useless to his long term future. No man loves to share his woman with any other man, it’s in our DNA.

5. learn to give him treats:
sharing is caring but that shouldn’t be exclusive for only men to do. I don’t think there is any lady ripe enough to be in a relationship that can’t raise 3,000 to spoil her man by either taking him out or buying him a gift. There is joy in receiving gifts. let ur man equally experience such joy. That will automatically separate you from any other lady he has ever come across.

6. Think of what makes him happy:
As simple as this looks 90% of ladies are guilty of these cos they spend the whole day thinking of what their man should do for them. As soon as you are in a relationship with a guy u need to take note of the things he likes and things that make him happy. If ur man loves to spend his Saturdays with guys watching ball don’t be selfish to demand he gives you his whole Saturday. Know is love language and learn how to speak such to him . there is this sense of pride and satisfaction a man has when he knows his lady can do things without been told.

7. Avoid complicating your life:
When in a relationship. Cut down on the numerous dates u have with men. Dates are usually the stepping stone to the beginning of a serious friendship or relationship and having more than one man will be highly unnecessary. Stop hiding ur man from the public. Let people know ur in a relationship it will save you a lot of stress from guys wanting to come into ur life if they are already aware your happy in a relationship. Also do away with unnecessary social media entanglements except if it’s for job related purposes. What is a lady who has a fiance doing in a dating site?

8. The notion of doing him a favour:
I guess this is peculiar to the average Nigerian girls mentality. A nice decent guy approaches u for a relationship and u feel ur doing him a favor by accepting his proposal there by expecting him to do everything in a relationship and put u on a monthly payroll. after all u said yes to him. Please that is extremely wrong. For your information, women need men more than the other way round. Women need men to give them emotional stability, offer protection and even pleasure. So why allow the guy do all the calling? All the taking out? All the buying of gifts. Madam which one are you doing? Lest I forget the fear of menopause is the beginning of wisdom lol.

In summary. A lady should be able to seamlessly perform the 8 roles above if she wants to play her role well as a caring and loving partner. Be it a student or not working isn’t an excuse not to be able to do all these roles. And for guys if you find any lady doing this hold the lady Down. If she doesn’t know any of these roles bring her to read and learn. She must have a teachable spirit. Feel free to add urs or critize me constructively. I drop my pen

Unbelievable Story Of Young Girl Whose Body Brings Out Blood Every Time She Sweats (Photos)

The story has been told of the young girl whose body emits blood every time she sweats due to rare medical condition.

The girl being checked by a doctor

An 11-year-old girl was recently admitted at the Quy Hoa National Leprosy Dermatology Hospital, in Vietnam, under suspicion of suffering from hematidrosis, a very rare medical condition in which people sweat blood.

The young girl, identified only as N., to protect her privacy, allegedly started sweating blood three or four months ago, when her parents claim she was very stressed about her exam for fifth grade.

They didn’t take her to a doctor when the first symptoms appeared, but things gradually got worse, to the point where the girl would sweat blood 3 or 4 times a day and suffer from severe headaches.

N.’s parents originally took her to the Blood Transfusion Hematology and the Dermatology Hospital in Ho Chi Minh, where doctors diagnosed her with a skin infection and prescribed her several drugs.

The girl

However, the treatment did not seem to help at all, so the family, who hails from Vietnam’s Gia Lai province, took her to Quy Hoa National Leprosy Dermatology Hospital, in Quy Nhon.

Hematidrosis is extremely rare, so rare, in fact, that some people don’t even believe it exists. However, cases of hematidrosis have been reported since ancient times, and even though there is much we don’t know about it, this is considered a real medical condition.

What limited knowledge we have of hematidrosis points to extreme stress and life-threatening situations as the main causes. Apparently, in certain situations, capillaries – the smallest blood vessels in our body – can rupture, causing blood to exit through the sweat glands.

Because we know very little about this condition, there is very little that doctors can do to treat it. In this 11-year-old’s case, doctors at Blood Transfusion Hematology and the Dermatology Hospital, have run tests on all of her major organs, all of which came out normal. For the time being, they are trying to reduce the girl’s stress levels, hoping that this was the cause of her “blood sweat”.

Saigon Online reports that when testing N.’s blood, doctors found only white blood cells, but no red blood cells, but it’s unclear if this is connected to the girl’s condition.

6 Different Types Of Hair Extensions That May Or May Not Be For You

When you want to add volume and inches to your hair, but you don’t want to have to wait for it to grow out or bother using a bunch of expensive styling products, there is another option. You can get extensions, and you have all kinds of options available. While there are some cheap clip-in extensions that you can put in your hair yourself, your best bet is to go to your favorite beauty salon and have a consultation with a stylist. They will tell you which types of extensions they use, talk about what you want to get out of the extensions, and let you know what the extensions are going to cost. Before you make a final decision, it is a good idea to familiarize yourself with the different types of hair extensions available.

1. Human Hair Extensions

If you are looking for extensions that are going to last, there is nothing like real human hair extensions. They will last much longer than synthetic hair extensions, and they look much more like your own hair. You can style them as you would normally, whereas with synthetic extensions you can’t use curling irons, flat irons, hair dryers, etc. Also, you can’t swim when you are wearing synthetic hair extensions.

2. Color Matching

Unless you are looking for a really wild and funky look, make sure that your hair extensions match your natural hair color (or the color that you have dyed or bleached your natural hair) as close as possible. There are so many colors available that there is no reason why you shouldn’t be able to get a pretty good match, and shades within your color tone for highlights and low-lights.

3. Remy Hair Extensions

Often, hair extensions don’t go in the proper direction, and you end up with a lot of tangles. This method involved attaching bundles of human hair in a way that the roots and ends are all in the right direction. They won’t tangle because the cuticles aren’t going to catch on one another. Another benefit is that each single hair is picked individually, making it much healthier than other types of natural hair extensions.

4. Xotica Hair Extensions

Hair extensions are awesome, but they also come with a high price, especially human hair extensions. But, if you choose Xotica Hair, you won’t be spending a small fortune, but you also won’t have to skimp on quality. These extensions are made from 100% human hair, and come from single-source donors. The wefts are long-lasting, and you won’t see a lot of shedding like you do with other types of extensions.

5. Seamless Hair Extensions

These hair extensions are applied close to the scalp, but not near the hair line. This way, you see more of your own natural hair and not the extensions, so your “do” looks more natural. These extensions are applied so they go with the natural direction of your own hair so you have beautiful, flowy hair. No heat or tools are used to apply these extensions, so there is no risk of damaging your natural hair.

6. Low-Maintenance

Look for extensions that aren’t going to involve a lot of maintenance on your part. If you spend a bit more to get the higher quality extensions, you will have less maintenance to worry about. Just make sure that you brush it regularly, keep it up when you are sleeping, and use the proper cleaning products. If you have to do more than this in order to keep your extensions looking great, those aren’t the extensions you want.

If You Think You Should Be Doing Better In Life, You’re Probably Right

Life requires growth of us. Constant growth. When we stop growing, we start to stagnate. We become stuck in old thought patterns, behaviors and fears. It starts to become uncomfortable. That’s when tensions mound and we start to see crises: times in our lives that require of us intense pain and change.

It doesn’t have to be like this.

In fact, you don’t only grow and change when approached with circumstances which necessitate it. You are growing and changing all of the time. Life is constantly asking you to reach farther than that which you’re comfortable and rise past that which you think you are capable.

You are not only asked to do this. You have to. Your choice is whether or not you walk or are dragged, so to say. If you adopt a mindset of constant growth, you will find that life becomes easier and easier, and more and more enjoyable.

But to do that, you first have to accept something that most people spend their entire lives trying to avoid: If you think you should be doing better in life, you are probably right.

Do Better In Life

If you think there is a way in which you could stand to be more grateful, you are probably right. If you think you are complaining too much, you are probably right. If you think your work is not challenging you, you are probably right. If you think that you need to mend certain relationships, or sever others, you are probably right.

The world spends so much time trying to coach you into having self-esteem by placating your circumstances. What most people don’t understand is that esteem is build from the outside in. To develop it, we have to prove to ourselves that we are enough. Some kind words and well meaning affirmations will not suffice.

The cold, hard, big ass pill to swallow is this: you are not going to be happy if you don’t actualize your potential, give a damn about your relationships, resolve that which haunts you, climb a mountain and then find another one. There is no point at which you can convince yourself you’re good enough to just coast. Most people spend their entire lives trying to find that point, and wonder why they are so deeply dissatisfied.

Understanding that you can keep rising to a new level of experience in your life does not mean you hate yourself, or don’t appreciate what you have. It does not mean you can’t embrace where you are. It just means recognizing that as life is constant movement, as are you.

Identifying the next way you want to grow and shift and change will make you a force of your own nature.

If you feel uncomfortable about being young and single, that’s probably because if you’re like many people, you’ll spend the majority of your life in a committed relationship with one person. Of course all of this rejection and uncertainty feels weird, it’s not how you’re supposed to live. The same is true of basically anything, whether it’s your city of residence, the friends you do or don’t have, or your work each day.

You cannot talk yourself into wanting a lesser life than you know, at a cellular level, you are not only capable of having, but are meant to have.

I say “cellular level” because this kind of knowing is a silent, unmovable force. You don’t even recognize it until it’s pushing you, constantly, reminding you every day that there’s is something else out there for you, even though you can’t quite see it yet.

Too many people spend too much of their time trying to convince themselves they are good enough, without realizing that it will never work. That’s why you have to keep convincing. You will feel self-assured when you get out there and build the life you know you want and are meant to live. You will not have to convince yourself of anything. You will be so immersed in the day-to-day of your experiences, you will look back and think:

I am so glad that even when I wanted to stop, life forced me forward.

I Told You So, The World Does Not Want Buhari Back, Says APC Presidential Aspirant

SKC Ogbonnia, a presidential aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has described the report in which President Donald Trump described President Muhammadu Buhari as “lifeless” as evident of the world’s supposed rejection of his decision to seek reelection.

He made his position known in a statement on Monday, noting that it gave credence to his earlier position that “the world is against President Muhammadu Buhari’s second term bid”.

According to Ogbonnia, the rejection of the international community is premised on “Buhari’s failing health, lack of clear vision, lack of intellectual capacity, an apparent pattern of torpor, nepotism, wanton killings, disregard for the rule of law, and a growing sense of disunity and uncertainty in the land, among many failings”.

A report by Financial Times had stated that “The first meeting, with Nigeria’s ailing 75-year-old Muhammadu Buhari in April ended with the US president telling aides he never wanted to meet someone so lifeless again, according to three people familiar with the matter”.

Ogbonnia stated that his “sources within the White House confided that Trump believes that Africa has the potential to be fully independent”.

The statement read: “I told you so. About ten days ago, I revealed to our great party, the All Progressive Congress (APC), and fellow Nigerians that the world is against President Muhammadu Buhari’s second term bid. I asserted that the opposition is coming from influential leaders within our major allies, including Great Britain, the United States, France, Germany, Russia, China, Canada, etc.

“I added that the emerging consensus among these nations is that President Buhari’s second term ambition lacks in cogency. They point to Buhari’s failing health, lack of clear vision, lack of intellectual capacity, an apparent pattern of torpor, nepotism, wanton killings, disregard for the rule of law, and a growing sense of disunity and uncertainty in the land, among many failings.”

Describing Trump’s alleged “lifeless” comment as “partial testimony”, he said: “my sources within the White House confided that Trump believes that Africa has the potential to be fully independent, “but the countries over there need to get their act together. They need good leaders who can get things done.

“This view is popular among the Western nations. I also gathered that some of the world leaders plan to visit or talk to Buhari soon.

“Perhaps, leadership is contingent upon the environment. What is good for America may not be good for Nigeria and vice versa. But if any relationship with the outside world is a factor in solving Nigerian problems, President Buhari has no business touching the APC nomination form.

“Further, the Financial Times does not speak for the world, quite alright, but its report is a part of the pressure from the international community that will continue to mount as the months leading to the 2019 go by. Such global campaign is expected to be more robust than what President Goodluck Jonathan faced in 2015.”

Nigeria: Oil Sector Slows GDP to 1.50 Percent in Q2

The oil sector slowed the nation's real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to 1.50 per cent in the second quarter of 2018 from 1.95 per cent recorded in the first quarter of the year.

Analysis of the latest GDP report released yesterday by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed that the economy shrank by 0.45 per cent in the second quarter of the year.

Recently, the Statistician General of the Federation, Dr. Yemi Kale, said though the economy was out of recession, it was still on the path of recovery.

However, the latest report is an indication that the economic recovery may take more time.

Analysis showed that GDP growth within the period was constrained by oil GDP with crude oil and gas production contracting by -3.95 per cent compared to 14.77 per cent in the first quarter of 2018 and 3.53 per cent in second quarter of 2017.

For the first time since the exit from recession, growth was driven by the non-oil sector in the second quarter of 2018.

The report showed that the non-oil sector GDP grew by 2.05 per cent in the second quarter of 2018, up from 0.76 in the first quarter of 2018, representing the strongest growth in non-oil GDP since the fourth quarter of 2015.

Reacting to the report, the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, said the contraction in the crude oil and gas sectors was attributable to some production issues which were being addressed by the NNPC.

Udoma, in a statement yesterday, said average crude oil production was only 1.84 million barrels a day in the second quarter of 2018 as opposed to an average production of 2 million barrels a day in the first quarter of 2018.

The minister said the growth in the non-oil sector in the second quarter can be attributed to the implementation of the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP).

Non-oil GDP growth was -0.18 per cent in the first quarter of 2016, -0.38 per cent in the second quarter of 2016, 0.03 per cent in the third quarter 2016 and -0.33 per cent in the fourth quarter 2016.

The non-oil GDP was 0.72 per cent in first quarter of 2017, 0.45 per cent in the second quarter of 2017, -0.76 per cent in the third quarter of 2017, 1.45 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2017 and 0.76 per cent in first quarter of 2018.

Further breakdown showed that the non-oil growth was driven by transportation which grew by 21.76 per cent supported by growth in construction which grew by 7.66 per cent and electricity which grew by 7.59 per cent.

Other non-oil sectors that drove growth in Q2 2018 include telecommunication which grew by 11.51 per cent, water supply and sewage which grew by 11.98 per cent and broadcasting which grew by 21.92 per cent.

The report also showed that the non-oil sector performance was, however, constrained by agriculture that grew by 1.3 per cent compared to 3.00 per cent in first quarter of 2018 and 3.01 per cent in second quarter of 2017.

The services GDP recorded its best performance in 9 quarters, growing by 2.12 per cent in the second quarter of 2018 compared to -0.47 in the first quarter of 2018 and -0.85 per cent in second quarter of 2017.

An expert, Mr. Abiola Rasaq, told Daily Trust that the slower recovery of the economy in the second quarter is reflective of the vulnerability of Nigeria to crude oil output and price.

Rasaq, who is the Head of Investor Relations at United Bank for Africa, said whilst oil price remained strong in the second quarter of 2018, output was lower at 1.84mbpd, compared to 2mbpd in the first quarter.

"This lower oil output was due to the shut-ins in two major fields during the period," he said.

He explained that the sector GDP numbers show stronger recovery in the telecommunication, construction and transport sectors of the economy, even as growth remains elusive in the financial services and trade sectors, which seemed to require fiscal and monetary policy push to gain momentum.

He said financial services and trade were critical to the recovery of the Nigerian economy and the government needed to provide further incentives to enhance growth in the two sectors.

"Interestingly, the growth of financial services will further stimulate growth in the manufacturing and trade sectors, given the multiple effects of financial inclusion and credit access," he added.

Also speaking to Daily Trust on the development, the Head of Department of Economics at the University of Abuja, Sarah Anyanwu, said early kick off of political activities in the second quarter of 2018 also contributed to the contraction in the GDP in the quarter.

Professor Anyanwu said there is more emphasis on politics than the economy and as such, the economy began to slow in the 2nd quarter.

She said the Federal Government needed to increase productivity, prioritise the economy, create more jobs, increase spending and grow agriculture to catapult the economy.

The German massacre in Namibia

The massacre of modern-day Namibia ;s indigenous Herero and Nama groups by German imperial troops more than a century ago is considered by some historians to be the first genocide of the 20th century.

As Germany prepares to return some of the victims bones on Wednesday, here is some background.

HERERO REVOLT

Germany ruled what was then called South West Africa as a colony from 1884 to 1915.

Angered by German settlers stealing their women, land and cattle in their remote desert territory, the Herero tribe launched a revolt in January 1904. Its warriors butchered 123 German civilians over several days.

The smaller Nama tribe joined the uprising in 1905.

The German occupiers responded ruthlessly, defeating the Herero in a decisive battle at Waterberg, northwest of the capital city of Windhoek, on August 11, 1904.

German troops then pursued them as some 80,000 fled towards Botswana, with women and children, across what is now known as the Kalahari Desert. Only 15,000 survived.

EXTERMINATION

In October 1904 German General Lothar von Trotha, under the direct command of Kaiser Wilhelm II in Berlin, signed a notorious extermination order against the Herero.

Within the German boundaries, every Herero, with or without a gun, with or without livestock, will be shot dead, he said.

Survivors were sent to concentration camps, decades before those in which millions of Jews and others were exterminated during World War II.

An estimated 60,000 Herero and 10,000 Nama people were killed from 1904 to 1908.

From 40 percent at the start of the 20th century, the Herero now only make up seven percent of the Namibian population.

BEHEADINGS

Hundreds of Hereros and Namas were beheaded after their deaths and their skulls were spirited away to German researchers in Berlin for since discredited scientific experiments to prove the racial superiority of whites over blacks.

In 1924 a German museum sold some of the bones to an American collector, who donated them to New Yorks natural history museum.

In 2008 Namibias ambassador in Berlin demanded that the bones be returned, saying it was a question of reclaiming our dignity.

Germany has since 2011 formally handed back dozens of the skulls, many of which were stored at universities and clinics.

Germany long refused to take the blame for the episode, only accepting responsibility on the 100th anniversary of the massacres in 2004, when the then development minister, Heidemarie Wieczorek-Zeul, said the atrocities... would today be called genocide.

GENOCIDE

Some historians and other officials have also termed the massacre a genocide, including then German parliamentary president, Norbert Lammert, in 2015.

The German government said in 2016 that it planned to issue a formal apology, but negotiations are still ongoing.

Berlin has also refused to pay reparations to descendants of the Nama and Herero victims, arguing that its development aid worth hundreds of millions of euros (dollars) since Namibias independence from South Africa in 1990 was for the benefit of all Namibians.

Herero and Nama representatives have filed a class-action suit against the German government in a US court to demand damages. The New York judge has yet to rule on whether to hear the lawsuit, which Germany wants thrown out.

Flood hits eight LGAs in Kano

Kano State Emergency Relief and Rehabilitation Agency says it has dispatched personnel to eight local government areas of the state recently affected by flood to assess the damage caused by the disaster in the areas.

The Executive Secretary of the agency, Alhaji Ali Bashir, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Kano on Thursday.

He said the team had visited seven out of the eight local government areas concerned to compile report on the situation.

Bashir listed the local government areas as: Rimin Gado, Tofa, Dawakin Tofa, Gwarzo, Danbatta, Kabo, Gezawa and Gabasawa.

“The team has so far visited and assessed the situation in Rimin Gado, Danbatta, Gezawa, Gwarzo, Tofa, Dawakin Tofa and Kabo local government areas.

“As I am talking to you now, we are in Gabasawa Local Government Area, assessing the damage caused by the flooding in the area,” he said.

Bashir, who declined to state the number of people affected by the disaster, said after the assessment, the agency would make a comprehensive report for onward submission to the state government.

“We cannot give you the exact number of persons or houses affected until after we finish the assignment.”

According to him, the agency is still receiving reports of the disaster from other areas prone to flood.

Xenophobia: Three killed in Soweto – South African Police

The Police on Thursday said three people were killed during looting in Johannesburg’s sprawling Soweto township.

The police also confirmed that 27 people have so far been arrested in the violence, which had a xenophobic component.

“I can confirm that two were shot and one was stabbed,” police spokesman Lungelo Dlamini said on local television channel eNCA.

“The number of arrests has risen up to 27,” he added – two for murder and most of the others for the public violence that broke out on Wednesday.

Dlamini said some foreign nationals living in Soweto had taken refuge in a police station for fear of being targeted.

“It is believed that the violence was sparked by accusations that shop owners within the community had allegedly been selling counterfeit and expired goods,” Johannesburg’s mayor Herman Mashaba said in a statement.

Mashaba called for calm.

Many of the small shops selling basic goods in South Africa’s townships are owned by nationals from other African countries, including Somalis, Ethiopians, Mozambicans and Zimbabweans.

The South African government has condemned the violence.

South Africa has recurrent spates of xenophobic attacks – with particularly bad examples in 2008 and 2015 – and more than 60 people have been killed in the past decade.

Mayor Mashaba has himself come under fire in the past from political opponents and rights groups for statements considered to be stoking xenophobic sentiment.

'Mourinho knows what he's doing' - Rooney backing Man Utd boss to lead title charge

The Portuguese has come under pressure after a poor start to the season at Old Trafford, but the Red Devils' all-time leading scorer is keeping faith

Wayne Rooney believes Jose Mourinho has a plan to turn around a poor start to the Premier League season with Manchester United.

Mourinho's men went down 3-2 at Brighton last time out, having scraped a 2-1 win at home to Leicester on the opening weekend.

The Portuguese has denied a rift with star player Paul Pogba after the World Cup winner suggested he could not speak his mind without risking a club fine.

And a tetchy news conference ahead of Monday's home game against Tottenham indicated Mourinho may be feeling the pressure at Old Trafford.

But D.C. United striker Rooney, the record goalscorer in United history, backed his old boss - a three-time Premier League champion across two spells at Chelsea - to turn things around.

"They have the quality, they just have to keep pushing," Rooney told CNN.

"Mourinho knows what he's doing and knows how to win titles.

"I'm sure with the quality of players he will have a game plan to push for the title."

Another former England striker, Alan Shearer, believes the problems at United are much worse, however.

Shearer rejected a switch to United at the height of his playing career and he feels the club has been going in the wrong direction since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement in 2013.

"United have tried everything to halt the slide," Shearer wrote in a column for The Sun. "Three managers and hundreds of millions on new players — but they seem to have no plan.

"In the seasons since Sir Alex retired they have finished 22, 17, 15, 24 and 19 [points] behind the champions.

"There has been no real title challenge and now, just two games into the season, it seems there is chaos behind the scenes and a total lack of leadership from the top.

"I have to ask, what on Earth is going on? At arguably the biggest club in the world, the executive vice-chairman [Ed Woodward], one of the best managers in the game and a star-studded array of players are simply not pulling in the same direction."

Ronaldo's stunning overhead kick for Real Madrid voted UEFA's Goal of the Season

The Portuguese's strike against current club Juventus has seen him edge out Marseille star Dimitri Payet and scoop the top prize for 2017-18

Cristiano Ronaldo’s stunning overhead kick for Real Madrid in their Champions League quarter-final clash with Juventus has been voted UEFA’s Goal of the Season for 2018.

The Portuguese boasts a remarkable collection of jaw-dropping strikes on his personal showreel, but an acrobatic bicycle kick at the Allianz Stadium is considered to be his very best.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has admitted as much, with the 33-year-old stating at his unveiling as DAZN’s first Global Ambassador: "[It] was in my opinion one of the best goals of my career so far.

"And, of course, when the people started to applaud me in the stadium I was like, ‘wow'.

"[It] surprised me a lot because this has never happened in my life, so it was an unbelievable moment."

Ronaldo’s effort in the first leg of the last-eight encounter in Turin helped Real to establish a 3-0 lead over Juventus.

They were to see that lead whittled away on home soil, but ultimately prevailed courtesy of another timely effort from a talismanic presence – with Ronaldo netting a dramatic penalty at the Santiago Bernabeu.

He would go on to help the Blancos conquer Europe for a third year in succession, landing him a fifth continental crown, while also finishing as the Champions League’s top scorer.

Ronaldo can now also boast a first UEFA Goal of the Season award, with his strike against Juve claiming almost 200,000 of the 346,915 votes cast on the official website of European football’s governing body.

That haul saw him finish well clear of Marseille star Dimitri Payet in second, with the Frenchman claiming the runner-up spot for his effort in a 5-2 Europa League win over RB Leipzig.

Third place went to Eva Navarro for her goal for Spain in their Women’s U17 EURO final victory against Germany.

Ronaldo is just the third player to scoop the top prize, which was first handed out in 2015.

Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi took the award in its first two seasons, before the baton was passed to Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic in 2017.

Dogara, Lasun absent at APC NEC meeting

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara; and his deputy, Suleiman Lasun are conspicuously absent from the on-going National Executive Committee meeting of the All Progressives Congress.

The two are currently the highest ranking members of the party in the legislature, following the decision of the Senate President Bukola Saraki to dump the party to join the opposition.

Saraki’s deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, is a member of the PDP.

Although the APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, related their apologies to the meeting, party watchers note that Dogara and Lasun are among top party leaders who have, at one point or another, voiced their displeasure with the happenings within the party.

Lasun was particularly unhappy with the direct method adopted for the Osun Governorship Primary, which he participated in and lost.

The APC NEC is expected to announce a decision as to whether this system will be adopted for subsequent primaries.

Anthony Joshua The Best In Heavyweight Division – Mike Tyson

Boxing great, Mike Tyson, believes without a doubt that British boxer of Nigerian heritage, Anthony Joshua, is by far the best in the heavyweight division as of now.

Though the heavyweight division is well contested by a number of top boxers, like Deontay Wilder, Dillian Whyte, Tyson Fury, Joseph Parker, Tyson has singled out Joshua as the best in the division and he had reasons to back up his choice too.

"Right now, Anthony Joshua seems to be the best out of the whole lot of them,” the 52-year-old said before highlighting what sets the 2012 Olympic champion apart.

"He's the bigger, stronger guy, more put together as well.

"More put together as far as his boxing skill is concerned as well.

"I think he is the best fighter out of the lot of them."

Tyson himself was the youngest ever unified heavyweight champion at just 20 years old, making him widely regarded as one of the greatest fighters of all time.

Besides Tyson’s declaration of Joshua as the best, the Brit is currently leading the way in his division, holding three out of four major heavyweight titles in the WBO, IBF and WBA Super champion crowns.

How APC Impoverished Osun Workers Through Anti-masses Policies – SDP

The Social Democratic Party, SDP, Osun State chapter, has berated the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, for championing anti-masses policies which has invariably impoverished workers in the state.

The party further accused the Governor Rauf Aregbesola-led administration of turning workers in the state into “a bunch of pitiable citizens”, adding that the once productive workforce has been rendered redundant due to maladministration.

This was contained in a press statement signed by the Chairman of the party in the state, Dr. Bayo Faforiji and made available to newsmen in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

Faforiji accused the ruling party of deceiving the electorate with the intent of getting their votes in the forthcoming governorship election by paying full salaries in July.

He described the modulated salary scheme introduced by the government in which some section of the workers get 50 per cent of their salaries, while others get 75 per cent as a dark moment in the lives of workers.

“Despite the political gimmick employed by the APC-led administration of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola to pay active workers their full entitlements only in July, to further lure them into voting wrongly for APC, the labour leadership under the auspices of Osun State Joint Public Service Negotiating Council has declared a 3-day warning strike, beginning from Wednesday, August 29 to press home their demands.

“It is indeed alarming, worrisome and unspeakable that workers, pensioners and retirees could be molested, intimidated and reduced to beggars in the name of “modulated salaries” incorporated by Aregbesola’s government.

“The workers, who have been battling with the situation since 2015, are now prepared to engage the current administration in an imminent showdown, should the government fails to respond positively to their demands.

“The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Osun state, feels the agony of workers, not only as humans but also as the biblical Noah’s ark, in this current era of APC’s sinking ship.

“As stakeholders in the project of an egalitarian society, with inalienable rights of all citizens to get paid for jobs done or services rendered, the workers must not be left alone in their present travails from the APC”, the statement read.

The SDP chairman however described the governorship candidate of the party, Senator Iyiola Omisore as a capable hand that would liberate the state.

He said, “the only consolation for us is the opportunity for change of leadership at the helm of affairs by the September 22nd governorship election in Osun state. Workers’ situation in Osun state, though pathetic, must not lead to despair but an eye-opener to vote a trusted hand, who is the SDP gubernatorial candidate, Sen. Dr. Iyiola Omisore, as governor.”

Goats can distinguish happy faces from angry ones –Study

A new study shows that goats prefer a happy human face instead of an angry one, which suggests such socio-cognitive ability is more widespread in the animal kingdom than previously assumed.

The research, conducted by scientists from the British Royal Society to ascertain goats’ ability to understand human social cues, used 35 goats for the study, according to a report published in the Open Science journal.

The researchers showed the goats a pair of photos of the same person, one of them looking happy, and the other angry.

The goats overall showed a strong preference for the positive face, wanting to interact with the happy face photo first and tending to spend more time with it, compared to the angry face photo.

The authors concluded that “goats can distinguish between happy and angry images of the same person, indicating that they can visually differentiate human faces conveying different emotional valences.”

Scientists have already known that dogs and horses can perceive human facial communication cues and believe the reason is that both the animals were domesticated specifically as companion animals.

The new study is the first to indicate that farm animals such as goats, which have not been bred specifically to interact with humans, can also understand human expressions.

The result could have implications for animal welfare because many livestock animals are probably more sentient and smarter than previously thought.

Man Pretends He Was Robbed, Slashes His Own Arms To Avoid Buying Girlfriend Expensive Car

Don’t make a promise you can’t keep. But even if you make a promise and you can’t meet up with keeping it, would you take a bizarre measure to save your face or simply come out clean?

A young Chinese man who did not have enough money to buy his girlfriend an expensive car has taken a strange measure to avoid that stress.

The young man identified only by his surname, Tang, took his girlfriend, Yang and her two brothers to a car dealership to pay 700,000 yuan (RM421,000) for an ultra-expensive car that he promised to her Thursday, August 16.

He claimed that he had already placed a down payment of 10,000 yuan (RM6,000) for the car before that.

As they got to the dealership, Tang told them to wait for him while he went to take out cash for the payment.

Instead, Tang ran to a nearby supermarket and bought a fruit knife for 15 yuan (RM9), not knowing that he was captured on CCTV making the purchase.

When he realized he could not afford to pay for the car, Tang decided to slash his arms with the knife to pretend that he was robbed. He hid behind a vehicle outside the supermarket and began slashing his arm with the fruit knife.

Tang then called his girlfriend on the phone and informed her that he was robbed of 750,000 yuan (RM451,000) at knifepoint.

This plan did not work out as planned as his girlfriend Yang called the police immediately while her brothers rushed him to the hospital.

He had to confess to the police that he staged the whole robbery because he had earlier lied to his girlfriend about being wealthy even though he wasn’t.

Tang’s plan ended up landing him in police cell where he was detained him for 10 days and fined him 500 yuan (RM301).

Multi-Purpose Preacher On Duty

The only way to describe this weird photo is to say the idea is to achieve multi-purpose preaching goals.

This is a viral photo of a two-in-one masquerade meaning to kill two birds with one stone. In this age of globalization this masquerade seems to be interested in accommodating two major religions across the world – traditional religion and Christianity.

Cat Elected As New Mayor In Michigan Village

A small northern Michigan village has elected a cat as its ceremonial mayor in an event to mark a fund-raising ceremony.

The cat contested against dogs, goats and even chickens, emerging victorious to become the mayor to serve a three-year term with other elected animals.

Omena’s newly elected mayor is a feline named Sweet Tart. Dogs Diablo Shapiro and Punkin Anderson Harder are vice mayor and second vice mayor.

The election committee announced Harley the goat as press secretary while Penny the chicken became special assistant for fowl affairs. The election took place in July.

The seats are ceremonial. WPBN-TV reports that the election is a fundraiser costing $1 per vote and brought in more than $7,000 to the Omena Historical Society.

“Because of our internet reach and because of our publicity and because of the ability to receive votes from PayPal, it’s really expanded the number of people that have participated,” said Keith Disselkoen, president of the historical society.

Sweet Tart did not comment when a reporter asked what plans it has for Omena.

Candidates have to be animals and live in Omena, which has about 300 human residents and is north of Traverse City.

An inauguration and parade were held in the last week of July.

Mexican City Changes Laws So People Can Have Sex in Public Legally.

The City of Guadalajara, the capital and largest city of the Mexican State of Jalisco is now a place where couples can have sex in public legally.

The authorities of the city, considered to be one of the most conservative cities in Mexico, approved a law that allows sexual relations in public view, unless there’s a public complaint.

This new law prevents the authority to sanction public sex acts, so long as there a third party has not complained.

“Having sexual relations or committing acts of exhibitionism of a sexual nature in public places, vacant lots, inside vehicles or in private locations in public view will be considered administrative offenses, as long as a citizen requests police intervention,” details the modification to article 14 of the Bylaws of Good Government.

The changes were issued in the capital of the state of Jalisco under the argument that the police should focus on combatting crime and not bother those who might be lacking funds to pay for a hotel.

The legal reform has caused outrage among the citizens of the city some of whom label it as a moral issue, and also warn that it makes it easier for rapists and pedophiles to abuse their victims.

Once these changes go into effect, the police will only be able to detain and fine those who have intimate encounters in public view if there is an expressed complaint from other citizens.

This initiative has a history in the world, now that Vondelpark in Amsterdam, one of the most popular public parks in the capital of the Netherlands, has allowed sex in the open air spanning over a decade.

The only rules in Amsterdam are to keep the space clean, the activities should be conducted in areas away from dedicated child zones, and if there’s too much noise, police can ask the lovers to leave.

CLIVE SUGAR GEORGE. MEET THE ON-AIR SPORTS DELIVERANCE MINISTER ON BRILLA F.M

When you set your eyes on the title of this article the first thing that comes to your mind as someone in a deeply religious developing nation is ‘regular church preacher’, ‘crusade-brand of pastor’ or even ‘sacrifice-demanding end-time prophet’. Well, far from it.

This is Clive Sugar George, a.k.a. Sugar Man, one of the most amazing sports presenters I have ever come across. He is a sports presenter at Brila 88.9 FM, Onitsha. This man needs to be announced to the world as, probably, the only sports presenter whose passionate love for his job cannot be equaled. Believe me, there are several very exciting sports presenters, and a number of them truly have unique qualities; But I have never come across the level of passion, professionalism, panache, fluidity, elegance, and class exhibited by Sugar George on radio.

The name ‘Sugar man’ is synonymous with Brila FM in the entire Southeast and South South Nigeria. Sugar man is popularly called ‘Double Sugar’ George or ‘Sugar Sugar’ man. Do you remember the football legend who was so loved by his fans to the extent that they named him twice? Of course, that’s ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha. That was how Bolton Wanderers fans described him. The fans were so thrilled by Okocha’s performance at their club that they said “He’s so good they named him twice.”

So you can relate to the level Clive George is operating in as an On-Air Personality (OAP). Clive is so good as a sports OAP that his fans named him twice – Sugar Sugar George.

You might be wondering why he was described as a Sports ‘Deliverance’ Minister in the title of this article. The Sugar Man’s star programme on Brila FM is entitled “Popular Side”. This is not just a programme but a prayer. Those who listen to it can perfectly relate to what is being referred to here. When listening to that programme you get ‘cured’ of any psychological ailment that was troubling you before the programme came on. Often times, the ailment gets cured while Double Sugar man is introducing the programme. He introduces the programme with an unbelievable artistry, emotional intensity, outburst of innate passion for a job, to the extent that the listener’s state of depression evaporates before the main issues commences. His voice moves like a spirit gripping the entire atmosphere where the radio set is. You find it difficult to leave the area except the programme is over, that is if you’re not listening via a mobile device.

Clive is not called “The Sugar Man” for nothing. His voice sounds so ‘sugary’ that bad mood cannot withstand it. You must get excited when you listen to The Sugar Man.  Make no mistake, ‘Popular Side’ is a prayer, not just a programme. The Sugar man runs a ‘prayer house’ in form of a radio programme, bringing joy to so many people in the Southeast. Currently, his prayer house is overflowing with Arsenal Fans most of whom have been there since their club’s performance began to take a tumble (apologies to Arsenal fans). The Sugar man’s presentation style brings joy to all who are exposed to his voice in radio. Spouses heal their marriages listening to the Sugar Man on radio. If you doubt this, just make sure you and your spouse listen to him on Brila FM whenever you have issue. His sports presentation style brings about a transfer process – from bad mood to good mood, hatred to love, despair to hope, capitulation to inspiration, and believe this, from Vietnam to USA (that’s a feeling you get).  His love for his job is truly inexplicable.

Clive has amazing on-air and off air personalities. Sometimes you discover that some presenters do not look as wonderful as their voice sounds in radio, when you meet them in real life. That’s why some people only prefer to enjoy the marvellous voices of their loved presenters on radio without making effort to meet them physically before you find out that someone whose voice sounds like that of a high-profile Hollywood star actually looks like the local version of Ngolo Kante (heavy apologies to Chelsea fans). Not for The Sugar Man. He actually looks amazing, just like top models who are only engaged by world class designers such as Ralph Lauren, Gucci, Hugo Boss, and Giorgio Armani.

Sugar man’s knowledge of sports issues is not what makes him exceptional. Most sports presenters keep in touch with emerging stories on various kinds of sports. What makes him different is how he presents the same news you’ve heard on other stations. He presents it as if the listener was there when it happened. Even if the story is unpalatable, probably a huge loss by your team, The Sugar Man sandwitches the story in humorous mannerism to the extent that you begin to wonder whether your club lost or won a match.

When we set out to speak with Clive as part of the buildup to this article, we never expected such infectious humilty from someone who has the most listener-friendly presentation style on radio.

On how he grew up loving sports, here’s what Clive said; “I grew up loving sports. My father was a big influence on me in regards to that. I’m also very musical. I inherited that from my mother who is a singer and today music is a big part of my presentation style.”
Clive threw more light on what makes him unique as a sports presenter;  “I have the ability to make things that are serious sound quite funny, putting all these together my style of presentation was inborn and it’s been making a lot of listeners happy.” Honestly, we agree with him totally. His listeners have proof of this.
According to Clive, “As an On Air personality I put hardwork and talent in regenerating myself. I bring out new things to entertain, educate and inform listeners.  It’s the fact that something is expected of you from time to time that enthralls the listeners and keeps the presenter at the top.”

Clive is a Nigerian. I deliberately decided not to mention his state of origin because his performance is totally Nigerian. He is a presenter who, in terms of ethnicity or state of origin, is neutral. He easily understands how to engage listeners from any part of the country, and that is why he is a delight to sports lovers in Anambra State and other parts of Southeast and South South Nigeria where fans of Brila FM tune in from.
Clive’s sports presentation style is so special that those who do not really love sports hook on to listen to his voice and tap into the happiness he shares on radio. He is truly an on-air icon. If you do not know that sports presentation on radio has a sugary taste, then you should listen to Sugar Sugar George.
