Bayelsa announces plan to arrest out-of-school kids

- The Bayelsa state government is set to take an extreme measure against out-of-school kids

- The government announced that students not seen in school premises during school hours will be arrested

- This was made known by the state commissioner of education, Honourable Jonathan Obuebite

The Bayelsa state government has announced that any child wearing school uniform found hawking, loitering or wandering around the state during school hours would be arrested.

In a statement sent to journalists by the state commissioner of education, Honourable Jonathan Obuebite, the government further stated that any child caught will be brought to the ministry and penalised alongside their parents.

The statement also said principals and headmasters would also be answerable to the ministry of education on the issue..

The statement read: “Attendance book would be mandatory in all our public primary and secondary school for the signing in and out of every student.

“Parents are advised to stay calm and let the government fulfil its promise of teaching and protecting their children.

“No parent or guardian would be allowed to pick his/her child during school hours as the safety of our children is the responsibility of the school once they arrive the premises."

The statement further advised all principals, vice principals and headmasters to take proper daily inventory of all students.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian army has debunked rumours going round in Rivers state about soldiers forcefully vaccinating students.

A statement by the deputy director of army public relations in the headquarters 6 division, Colonel Aminu Ilyasu, described the rumours as callous and unpatriotic.
