A graduate of the department of Mass Communication, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Soromto Orji, has launched a customised new brand of locally produced rice into the market.

Orji who took to Agriculture after graduating in 2014, launched ‘Sommie Rice’ into the Nigerian market with a view to meeting the high demand for rice in the Yuletide season.

Sommie Rice was cultivated and packaged in Anambra State.

Orji said he personally supervised the cultivation and harvesting of the rice to ensure that quality was not compromised. The rice was cultivated and harvested in Anambra North.

He said over 500 bags of Sommie Rice were introduced into the market for a start, adding that more will be introduced later to meet the demands of the festive season.

“We all know that the nutritional value of local rice is higher than that of foreign rice. This is basically because the local rice did not undergo the polishing and finishing process which the foreign rice usually passes through before packaging. Any expert in Agriculture will tell of the high nutritional value of locally produced rice,” he said.

Sommie Rice has since been launched into the market and is recording huge sales due to preference of consumers for local rice produced in Anambra North.
