Liverpool forward, Mohamed Salah has been crowned the African Footballer of the Year for 2017 by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The Egyptian forward dethroned Leicester City’s forward, Riyad Mahrez, to win the prestigous award, shaking off competitions from club teammate, Sadio Mane (2nd) and Borrusia Dortmund striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (3rd).
Recall that Salah was last month voted BBC African Footballer of the Year beating Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Naby Keita, Sadio Mane and Nigeria’s Victor Moses to the prize.
The Liverpool forward is really having a good moment in his football career.
The recipient of the CAF award is decided by national team coaches and technical directors in Africa – with Yaya Toure and Samuel Eto’o the most-honoured individuals with four titles each.
Nigerian international, Asisat Oshoala won the Women’s Player of the Year yet again. Egypt was crowned the Men National Team of the Year while South Africa won it in the female category.
Wydad Casablanca won the African Club of the Year Award. Ahmed Yahya of Mauritania was honored with the Leader of the Year Award.
